2024 QPRC and Bendigo Bank Art Awards Entry

The QPRC and Bendigo Bank Art Awards will be held from 23 May to 15 June 2024. Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council extends an invitation to all artists and craftspeople who reside in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government Area to enter the 2024 Awards.

Award Categories

The Braidwood and Bungendore Community Bank Branches are proudly supporting this initiative with $10,000. The total prize value for 2024 is $17,500.

Conditions of entry

Eligibility

  • Entry is open to all artistsand craftspeople 18 years and overwho reside in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government Area.

  • Entry into the First Nations Indigenous Award – is eligible only to first nations identifying residents who reside in the QPRC – local government area.

  • Entry into the Youth Emerging Art Award – is eligible only to young persons aged between 16 and 25 who reside in the QPRC – local government area.

  • Note: Entry into special categories does not exclude you from the major prize

  • Artwork must be an original work by the artist, have not previously won an award, and have been completed within the last 2 years. It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure there is no infringement of copyright laws.

  • Artworks generated by AI (artificial intelligence) are not eligible to enter.

  • Staff and families of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council are not eligible to enter.

Acceptable artworks

  • An artwork can be a work on paper, photograph, sculpture, painting, ceramic, textile, glass or mixed media.

  • The size of wall mounted artworks must not exceed 250cm x 250cm.

  • 3-Dimensional works: include sculpture, ceramics, glass and mixed media must not exceed 100cm wide x 100cm deep x 150cm high and 20kg in weight.

  • Works weighing over 20kgs can only be submitted with prior approval to the submission deadline and special arrangements agreed upon for the delivery and installation of the work. Please call Janita Byrne on 6285 6170 to discuss further.

  • Artworks must be clearly marked with the artist’s name, title of work and sale price on back of artwork and with sculptures a securely attached by a swing tag.

Registration of artwork

  • Online pre-registration of artwork does not guarantee exhibition of work.

  • If you have technical issues in submitting an online registration, we can pre-arrange an in-person registration on one of the delivery days.

  • Online and in person registrations must include artwork details including: Title, date size, medium and price of work. And a 25-to-50-word Artist Statement of the submitted work. Failure to do so may affect the judging process for your entry.

  • Please ensure that you supply an adequate, well-lit image of your artwork minimum 1-megabyte J-peg file size as part of your registration for promotional purposes and the subsequent online exhibition.

Entry fees and sale of artworks

  • There is a limit of one entry per artist at a non-refundable entry fee $25.

  • All artworks must be for sale and priced to include the 25% commission payable to QPRC from the sale of artworks.

  • If an artwork is priced over $5000 and wins the acquisitive award it will not receive more than the allocated prize amount.

  • Payment of sold works will be made under normal circumstances within 4 weeks of the close of the exhibition.

Terms and Conditions

Delivery of artwork

  • Works delivered to ‘The Q-Exhibition Space’ Queanbeyan, must take place on the designated days or the artist forfeits their registration.

  • Delivery of works is at the artist’s own risk and therefore works should be appropriately insured by the artist.

  • Works whilst on display, are covered by Council’s limited liability insurance

  • The non-refundable entry fee of $25 is payable on delivery of artwork to The Q-Exhibition Space, Queanbeyan. Cash, credit card and eftpos are accepted.

  • Participating artists are encouraged to sit the Awards during the exhibition period.Artists will be requested to nominate availability when delivering their artwork.

Exhibition & Judging

  • In the event that the awards are oversubscribed, the submissions may be curated and limited to a group of selected finalists.

  • Sold artworks must remain on display throughout the duration of the exhibition. Artists whose work is selected for entry authorise and agree to permit images of artwork to be used for promotional purposes; the artist will retain copyright.

  • Organisers reserve the right to reject artworks they feel do not meet exhibition standards or pose Work Health and Safety issues.

  • Independent judges of professional standing from outside our region, are selected to volunteer their time to confer the awards on the majority of prizes.

  • The Sponsors – Palerang Financial Services trading as - Braidwood & Bungendore Community Bank Branches of Bendigo Bank – reserve the right to confer two awards - The ‘Bendigo Pick Award’ and its runner up, at their discretion.

  • The Judges decisions are final, and no objections can be entered into.

  • The Judges have authority to NOT award a prize category if they feel the entries doe not display a sufficient standard to fulfill the criteria set out in the guidelines.

  • Awardees will not be informed of their award until the announcement ceremony

  • Awards and prizes can be awarded in absentee.

  • In the event of a pandemic lockdown the awards will be postponed for the duration of the lockdown period. Artists will be notified via email.

  • A selection of the awarded artworks will be invited to be exhibited after the close of the awards in the Braidwood and Bungendore Community Bank Branches throughout the second half of 2024.

Disputes Process

  • In the event of a competitor or viewer questioning a winners right of acceptance dueto non-residency, cultural heritage, copy right infringement or originality of work, theymust notify the organisers via email to Cultural.services@qprc.nsw.gov.au or inwriting to QPRC within 7 Days of the announcement of the Awards. They mustclearly outline their grievance and supply proof of their claim. The claim will bereviewed by QPRC Executive & Governance Management Teams before a ruling willbe awarded.

Collection of artworks

  • Unsold artworks must be collected from The Q on the designated days. Please note: failure to collect unsold artwork will result in the work being disposed of at Councils discretion.

  • A selection of Awarded works will remain for exhibition at Braidwood and Bungendore Community Bank Branches throughout 2023.

Special instructions for presentation/installation of work (artwork must be ready for hanging and display - framed works must have ‘D rings’ attached). Photographs and other works on paper must be suitably mounted or otherwise prepared for display.
